
Massimiliano Gagliardo is born in Cairo Montenotte near Savona
in Italy and after begin his piano degree career at the Conservatorio Paganini in Genoa, made his debut really young as Enrico in Donizetti's
Lucia di Lammermoor. Despite his young age he has already performed
in several roles of the baryton repertoire like Dandini in La
Cenerentola, the Rabbino in L'amico Fritz, Cavalier Belfiore
in Il finto Stanislao by Verdi, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Sharpless
in Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Escamillo in Carmen, Antonio
in Linda di Chamounix, Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Silvio
in I pagliacci, Michonnet in Adriana Lecouvreur, Gianni Schicchi,
De Siriex in Fedora, Rodrigo in Verdi's Don Carlo, Riccardo
in I puritani, Hidraot in Armide by Gluck, Belcore in L'elisir
d'amore, Boniface in Le jongleur de Notre Dame by Massenet,
Bruschino Padre in Il signor Bruschino, Falstaff. His versatility
allow him to perform less known operas like Una cosa rara by
Martin y Soler for the prestigious Konzerthaus in Vienna and
operas in foreign languages like Russalka by Dargomyzkij and
Il matrimonio by Mussorgskij for the Accademia di Santa Cecilia
in Rome and for Teatro alla Scala in Milan. He also sung
contemporary works as Isabella by Azio Corghi for the Rossini
Opera Festival in Pesaro and La Cantata della vita by Gianluigi
Gelmetti in the world first recording for Teatro Comunale in Bologna.
Gagliardo's been invited in some of the major italian and
international opera houses like Teatro Regio in Parma, Teatro
alla Scala in Milan, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro Comunale
in Bologna, Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, Teatro Massimo Bellini
in Catania, Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, Théàtre
des Champs Elysées in Paris, Opera House in Montecarlo,
Bunkakaikan and NHK in Tokyo; he has been invited also by great
opera festivals as Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, the Wexford
Opera Festival in Ireland and in famous concert houses such as
Konzerthaus in Vienna and Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
He sung under the conduction of great maestros
like Myung-Whun Chung, Riccardo Muti, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Richard
Bonynge, Daniele Gatti, Riccardo Chailly, Jordi Savall, Claudio
Scimone and he has been directed by some of the most important
directors like Pierluigi Pizzi, Giorgio Strehler and Franco Zeffirelli.
He already has performed in vocal concerts (Teatro
Regio in Parma, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro Comunale in
Bologna), and he sung the Liederkreis by Shumann for the Symphonic
Season of Teatro Comunale in Modena. He sung in the first world performance
of Misa Tango by Louis Bacalov at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia
in Rome under the baton of Chung, with unanimous consenses..
His concert repertory include also IX Symphony by Beethoven, Requiem
Mass by Donizetti, Ein Deutches Requiem by Brahms and the Gloria
Mass by Puccini.
He made important debuts such as Papageno
in Die Zauberfloete for Teatro dell'Opera in Rome conducted by
Gianluigi Gelmetti with whom he frequently collaborates. He gain
unamimous consenses both public and critict with his interpretations
of the role Hidraot in Armide by Gluck for Teatro alla Scala in
Milan conducted by Riccardo Muti and his debut as Giorgio Germont
in La traviata by Verdi for Teatro dell'Opera Giocosa in Savona.
At the Lugo di Romagna festival he sung the two opera rarities
Une education manquée by Emmanuel Chabrier and Le peuvre
matelot by Darius Milhaud. He came back in Savona for Don Giovanni
and La Traviata and in Teatro dell'Opera di Roma per Don Giovanni
(Leporello), I pagliacci (Silvio), Adriana Lecouvreur (Michonnet),
Il barbiere di Siviglia (Figaro) with the famous italian actor
Leo Gullotta, La bohème (Marcello) in the famous La Scala
production by Franco Zeffirelli and again Die Zauberfloete (Papageno).
To be noticed his debut in Teatro Municipal in Santiago del Chile
as Michonnet in Adriana Lecouvreur under the direction of the
famous soprano Renata Scotto near Veronica Villaroel in the title role. Critics successes also for the performances
of Don Carlo in Ernani for Teatr Wielki in Poznan and Don Geronio
in Rossini's Il turco in Italia for Teatro Marruccino in Chieti
as well as his participation at Teatro dell'Opera in Roma
inauguration with the never performed Respighi's Marie Victoire
under the direction of Hugo de Ana and Donizetti's Le convenienze
ed inconvenienze teatrali for the Montecarlo Opera Theatre, Strauss's
Ariadne auf Naxos as Harlekin for Teatro Verdi in Trieste. Important and successfull come back for Respighi's
La bella dormente nel bosco and De Falla's El retablo de Maese
Pedro performed at Teatro Comunale in Bologna. Recently he perfomed successfully the role of Kyoto in Mascagni's Iris for the Livorno, Lucca, Rovigo and Pisa's theatres the title role of Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and Schaunard in La bohème at Teatro del Maggio Musicale in Florence under the baton of Stefano Ranzani and in the historical Jonathan Miller production. Great success of public and critics for his debut in the role of Conte Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart under in the new Viterbo Lina Wertmuller production and the revival of Così fan tutte in Rome under conduction and direction of Gianluigi Gelmetti, the debut at the National Opera of Greece in Athens as Rimbaud in Le Comte Ory by Rossini and the role of Sonora in Puccini's La fanciulla del West in the Metropolitan Del Monaco production.
Between future engagements figure the debut at the Gulbenkian Concert Hall in Lisbon for the Missa de Santa Cecilia by Nunes Garcia conducted by M° Claudio Scimone, Shaunard in La bohème for Settimane Musicali in Stresa and for RAI Auditorium in Turin under the baton of Gianandrea Noseda and in a new production for Teatro Regio di Torino, the comeback in the role of Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia for the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, the role of David in L'amico Fritz by Mascagni in Timisoara under the baton of M° Alberto Veronesi, Don Giovanni in the title-role and again Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia for the National Opera in Warsaw.
